BookMarks #94: Everyone Has A Story

Title: Everyone Has A Story
Author: Savi Sharma
Published:2016
Genre: Fiction, Romance

BookMarks
The #1 Bestseller – blares out a line on top of the title.

So thought of giving this book a try. And well, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The best part of the book – it is short. It is a story of two protagonists and two support cast. They each have their ambitions and plans. Yet there is hardly much fleshed out about them. There are cliched twists in the tale. But nothing really engaging.

Amazon is certainly pulling in all stops to sell the book, but the product is not worth the hype. Overall, a book which can be easily given a miss.

BookMarks #93: Once Upon An IAS Exam

Title: Once Upon An IAS Exam
Author: K Vijaykarthikeyan
Published: 2018
Genre: Fiction

BookMarks
The book describes one year in the life of an UPSC aspirant. From missing out in UPSC prelims to breaking through in the next year. Along the way it’s a journey of friendships, experiences and a love story. There is also an attempt to align with the events of 2010-11 including the ODI Cricket World Cup and the Anna Hazare movement.

This is a light, breezy read which also throws light on the IAS entrance examinations, the types of candidates, their struggles, their support system and the business of coaching centres. The plot is straightforward with no real dramatic twists.

And there is also an analogy to MS Dhoni thrown in at the end.
