Living On A Prayer

After a 3 month hiatus, I have finally got down to making a new blog entry. Not quite sure what to write about though. In the past 3 months have got plenty of new experiences, became acquainted with a completely new industry, watched a few movies and read a few books. And now I am in the senior year of college. When I started typing this post it was to the sounds of Enigma, now its changed to Bon Jovi. These are the benefits of putting all your songs in Winamp and playing them in random. So its "Living on a Prayer" for now. Amongst all these many activities it was the books which were the best. It had been quite awhile since I read any thing other than text books. So it was wonderful to get back into the world of books. And it brought back a flood of memories. But all these will have to wait awhile. Hopefully I will be able to post my thoughts in this regard some time soon.
I had added a map to show the visitor locations to this blog on my site. According to the map, my blog has nearly 600 visitors since November 2006. It feels great to see your blog having been visited from across the world. The readership has simply spread and I hope there will be more red dots appearing on the map soon
Till next time...
P.S. The songs since changed to Jiya Jale (Dil Se) and then onto Aate Jaate (Maine Pyar Kiya)....and now to Beatles.
The post has been named becoz of the song playing at that instant...couldn't think of any proper name for this

Its only a game

17 march, 2006
A couple of huge shocks in the cricket world
Bangladesh beat India by 5 wickets
Ireland beat Pakistan by 3 wickets (on St. Patrick's Day)
Two unexpected and stunning results. But the reaction in the countries involved over the next 24 hours was only expected. There were huge celebrations in Bangladesh and Ireland as expected. In India, Dhoni's home was attacked while additional security had to be put up at the residences of the other players. In Pakistan it was much worse. Some even demanded the desolution of the cricket board and called for the arrests of the officials and players. The events culminated with the news of the tragic death of Bob Woolmer, the highly respected coach of Pakistan, who was found dead in his hotel room. Maybe it was the result of the stress caused by the defeat. Is this the price that people have to pay because they are passionate about the game they love. There were many reactions to this news. But one was really touching. This from a man in the Hospital in which Woolmer had been admitted.
"Da coach who die? Maybe he take it to heart? Even da biggest team can lose to little team, man. It a game, and da ball round."
People here tend to forget this simple premise. That cricket is not a matter of life and death. Its only a game after all.

Holi@Planet I

Day in My Life - 4

Was going through the past few posts. Seems like the blog was turning more into a movie critic thing. So decided that I need to put in some more glimpses of my campus life in it. So here goes
The Day: Sunday, March 4, 2007 (Holi)
It was the last day of a 6 day period with no classes (due to the ongoing placements of the senior batch). And it was the occasion of Holi too. I have been out of my home for the last 6 years but somehow had never celebrated Holi in campus. Either I was at home or in transit which was the case last year. So it was my first campus Holi. Overall experience not bad though no one enjoys colour being rubbed, pourn or thrown on yourself. It was followed by what can only be described as a topless dance. A look at the picture should make things clear. Who would expect this bunch of semi-naked people to be students of the one of the nation's premier B-schools. But then thats what we are.

Men in Blue...and a Billion Hopes

The Men in Blue left for West Indies for the 9th Cricket World Cup. Will the 24 year wait end this time or will it be another failure. But one thing is certain over the next 2 months most eyes will be on the action in West Indies. With the time difference being what it is, most will be awake most of the nights, more delays in the morning. But there will be a sense of accomplishment if the result is what we hope it would be. Though considering Team India's form over the last year maybe this would be hoping for too much. But with the so called glorious uncertainities of the game, one can only hope for the best. So all eyes will be on Dravid, Sachin, Dada, Veeru, Yuvi, Dhoni, Karthik, Uthappa, Agarkar, Zaheer, Munaf, Sreesanth, Pathan, Kumble & Bhajji as they make their attempt for the greatest glory in sport. After all they carry the hopes of over a billion Indians. Wishing Team India the very best. Hope the 24 year wait ends.

Valentine's day & all that stuff...

So another Valentine's Day is here. Articles are being published to commemorate the day. Love songs are being played continuously on the music channels. The moral police have started issuing their warnings. Even the administration in my college has not scheduled any exams on the day. Not that I have had any reason to celebrate it yet or for that matter anyone to share it with. But have been getting a few mails giving advise for the V-Day. Here goes one of them.
Follow strictly the below mentioned steps and success is guaranteed:
  • Choose the girl you want to propose on the D-day
  • Pick a rose
  • Spot the girl
  • Stand in front of her
  • Give her the rose
  • Hug her tightlllyyyyy
  • If she doesn’t resist. Battle won, the girl is yours!!!
  • If she resists and stare at you angrily, immediately leave her and start clapping and shouting

J.K.Rowling & the Deathly Hallows

Let me make something clear at the very beginning. I am a big Harry Potter fan. And like many others I am also eagerly awaiting the release of the last book in the series. While searching about the new book, came across anews item which said that J.K.Rowling finished the series in a posh Scottish hotel. To commemorate this she scribbled on a marble bust in her hotel room the following line.
"JK Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room (652) on 11th Jan 2007"
For someone who started off writing in a cafe as she could not afford heating in her home to becoming one of the richest women in the whole world, she's come a long way. And now she can easily get away with what can only be described as vandalism of hotel property. I guess this is one of the perks of being a highly successful author. But then why should i mind. After all she has given Harry Potter to the world.

Its Magic...again

"Every great magic trick consists of three acts. The first act is called "The Pledge"; The magician shows you something ordinary, but of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn"; The magician makes his ordinary some thing do something extraordinary. Now if you're looking for the secret... you won't find it, that's why there's a third act called, "The Prestige"; this is the part with the twists and turns, where lives hang in the balance, and you see something shocking you've never seen before."
- Cutter, The Prestige (2006)

Nothing is what it seems

From the moment we enter this live we are in the flow of it. We measure it and We mock it, but we cannot defy it. We cannot even speed it up or slow it down. Or can we? Have we not each experienced the sensation that a beautiful moment seemed to pass to quickly, and wished that we could make it linger? Or felt time slow on a dull day, and wished that we could speed things up a bit?
- Eisenham, The Illusionist (2006)
What is reality and what is illusion? Something which seems to be an illusion is actually a mirror of the real. Illusion can also be described as forced reality. Something which may not actually be there but which the mind is forced to see. Maybe I am not making much sense. I guess this could be attributed to the fact that I just watched the movie the Edward Norton starrer "The Illusionist". A movie which is based on a simple premise
Everything you have seen here has been an illusion
